Breakfast food by itself is already great, but having them while sitting in a pretty yet tastefully decorated cafe makes the experience a whole lot better. Grids & Circles is a relatively new face in Chinatown which boasts a multi-concept space in which it is a restaurant-bar. This edgy cafe takes only cashless payments and is a sight to behold for all minimalists.

If you have read this far, I believe it is safe to say you are a certified breakfast food lover and you love your eggs. At Grids & Circles, you will be in for an eggcellent treat with their Tamago. Enveloped between two toasted buns is a light and fluffy Tamago egg. The pear sauce and konbu mayonnaise bring the extra flavours to life that will leave you wanting for more. The Strawberry Wonderland is a stack of dense and thick Japanese pancakes topped with fresh strawberries, strawberry compote, Chantilly cream and basil mint sauce. Perfect for the sweet tooth!

Clinton Street Baking Company first started operations in the bustling streets of New York City and quickly gained recognition for their American classics, especially their fluffy stack of pancakes which are more often than not mentioned in food blogs and magazines alike. Today, you no longer have to book a flight to the States for a taste of authentic NYC brunch food when it is now available at Purvis Street in the sunny island of Singapore, making it the first outlet in all of South-East Asia.

A must-try, must-have and must-get at this breakfast heaven is their Pancakes with Warm Maple Butter which are beaten up extra fluffy and soft while still capturing the deep flavour of butter and sugar. These highly raved pancakes are not only labelled customer’s favourites but are voted not once but twice as the best pancakes in New York Times magazine! Even better, these gorgeous stacks come with a topping of your choice: blueberries, banana walnuts or chocolate chunks.

If you prefer eggs over flour for breakfast, the Clinton St. Omelette is the one for you. Looking like a dream, the omelette is soft and cooked to a perfect golden yellow. Again, you can decide on two ingredients you would like to have with your morning eggs. Some fillings to choose from include cheddar, caramelised onions, spinach, tomatoes, bacon and ham. 4. Wildseed Cafe at The Summerhouse

Wildseed Cafe boasts a casual hangout concept and is parked at the first level of a colonial bungalow space at The Oval @ Singapore Aerospace Park. This cafe makes for a great brunch spot for families with children with a wide landscape garden available right in front of the bungalow. While Wildseed is a cafe and patisserie by day, it turns into a bar where you can expect to be crooned by live acoustic music by night.

The Grilled Chicken Thigh is a chef recommendation where the meat is sous vide before slowly grilled to perfection to achieve a tender chicken thigh that is well-infused with robust flavours. For vegetarians, you can opt for Wildseed Garden Arrabiata which features penne pasta, tomatoes, mushrooms, homemade mango pickle baby corn and a sprinkle of parmesan cheese to top it all off.

Satisfy your sweet cravings with the Atas Kaya Toast, a delightful rendition of our familiar local toast substituted with sourdough, kaya jam, homemade butter, desiccated coconut, Gula Melaka, pandan, and sous vide egg. 5. Thus Coffee

Thus Coffee is a walking distance away from Sembawang Hill Food Centre and makes for a great location for both a business deal and a place to catch up on your reading on a lazy day. It was also mentioned that the cafe is named as such as “All good things begin with a cup of coffee”, which was how Thus Coffee was born!

The Creamy Chicken Leg Stew is a signature dish here. You will find herbed potatoes, carrots and zesty lime in the humble bowl with toasted multigrain bread to accompany it. Expect soft chicken meat to fall off your drumstick but definitely not off your tastebud charts! If the stew is not Instagram worthy, the Berry Matcha Lava Cake definitely is. Surrounded by a medley of fruits, flower petals and mint leaves is a rich green lava cake which will explode some good matcha goodness with a slight poke of your utensils. Quench your thirst with the pretty Summer Cooler - a zesty combination of lemonade and soda for a tasty refreshment.

6. Old Hen Kitchen

Before Old Hen Kitchen, there was Old Hen Bar first. Located just 5 minutes away from the Old Hen Bar lies the open kitchen concept cafe which serves mean brunch, coffee and dessert menu on Owen Road.

Customer favourites include the Mochi Pancake Stack - think three generous layers of pancakes stacked high, topped with vanilla bean ice cream with an assortment of berries and homemade muesli -  and the Breakfast Plate - bacon, potato croquette and strawberry fig jam all in a hearty plate. Both of these dishes require approximately 20 minutes of waiting time but as the saying goes, good things are always worth the wait right? If you have frequented Old Hen Bar, you will also know that they serve their cold brews in their signature faux beer bottles. Good news for they have it in the kitchen as well! Select from Black, White, Cold Dark Cocoa and Cold Matcha Milk to complement your food.

7. Carrara Cafe

Carrara Cafe is the latest product of the owners behind Dandelion Cafe, both situated in Bukit Merah, and has all the qualities cafe hoppers would love. The cafe is named after a type of Italian marble and it shows through the white marble tabletops occupying the dining space. Carrara is also a cafe, bistro and creamery all at once so read on to find out more about their interesting concept.

Not many breakfast places feature the Swiss signature dish, rosti, in their menu but here at Carrara, they have four versions of rosti for you to choose from. To name, there is the Smoked Salmon Swiss Rosti, Sausage Swiss Rosti, Smoked Salmon Cheese Rosti and the chef-recommended Sausage Cheese Swiss Rosti. Fun fact, the rostis are made in-house! The breakfast menu does not just stop here. Carrara also has the brekkie usuals like Big Breakfast, Turkey Bacon Eggs Benedict and Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict if you are not into potatoes as much.

9. Forty Hands

Forty Hands brings you artisanal coffee blends and Western-style breakfast to your table at the heart of Tiong Bahru. Nestled between residential buildings, tall galleries and book stores lies the homely and cosy yet bustling cafe. Forty Hands was named as such as 20 people are required in the production of its coffee, from plant to cup - genius, huh?

As its name suggests, the Big Boy Breakfast consists of a plateful of organic smoked beef sausage, grilled tomatoes, mushroom ragout, organic bacon, flatbread with sour cream, creamy scrambled free-range eggs and a dollop of beef bolognese as a dipping sauce. If you wish for something lighter, get the Stinky Har Cheong Gai Waffle (not stinky at all, we promise you!), which brings together a sinful harmony of shrimp paste batter-fried chicken with sambal maple syrup & a perfect sunny side up. In the midst of these Western dishes, Forty Hands has also included a local touch to their menu with the classic Tau Sar Pau and Kong Bak Pau, to relive your childhood days.

This vegan cafe prides themselves on serving each and every one of their customers' wholesome food made from non-processed ingredients. If you are all about the gluten-free lifestyle, Wholesome Savour is the perfect place for you! Their menu options are free from dairy, gluten, trans-fat, additives and cholesterol which means you’ll be spoilt for choice here while getting your nutritional fix. If you are still feeling iffy, be rest assured as a team of nutritionists, dieticians and experienced chefs are behind the menu (and counter!).

Their Raw Banana Bread is described to improve heart health with and comes with vegan banana bread and three dollops of dippings namely; Almond Butter, Rawtella, Chocolate Sauce and Berries. The Ojas Oatmeal consists of a cinnamon oatmeal base and is further topped with coconut yoghurt and berries. 

Cleanse your palate with a glass of cold-pressed juice where more nutrients are retained as compared to other juicing methods. Green juice fans should definitely get the Wakeup Call, a blend of Pineapple, Kale, Fennel, Cucumber and Cilantro.
