18 Top Restaurants & Cafes in Dhoby Ghaut for Delicious Delights

It’s an undeniable fact that eating is Singapore’s national pastime— whether it’s waiting over two hours for the grand reopening of A&W at Jewel Changi, or having food delivery apps on your phone for handy takeaways. With the wide range of cuisines located in close proximity to each other, you’d be hard-pressed to find another city that has this much food options to offer.

But if you’re ever stuck for choice, why not consider heading down to Dhoby Ghaut? Located right in the heart of town (which means that no one has any excuse not to join the group feast), this little area is definitely no small feat when it comes to the food scene. Be it a casual lunch with your friends or a fun night in town, read on for our list of dining places in Dhoby Ghaut that won’t disappoint you!

1. Lokkee by TungLok

Source: Lokkee

Adding a unique twist to the traditional Chinese cuisine they had been known for, Tung Lok Group added Lokkee to their repertoire to meet with the growing demands of evolving taste buds. Drawing inspiration from Westernised Chinese takeout that fills the streets of cities like New York and Sydney, Lokkee adds their own spin with premium ingredients and skills you would expect from a Tung Lok establishment. Still not quite sure what to expect? Well, kai lan has now been pimped up with the addition of Angus beef, their peppercorn fried chicken have little pockets of mango-puree that visually looks like an egg yolk (but is such a good reprieve from the spiciness), and their bacon salad is decorated with a rack of bakkwa hanging over it. Admittedly, this may be something new for those used to more traditional fare. However, if you’re up for a cheeky reinterpretation of Chinese food, Lokkee would definitely not disappoint.

Although it may be housed in the oldest museum in Singapore, the innovative flavours it bring to the table acts as a beautiful contrast to its locale. With different menus for different occasions (be it for a relaxing brunch or an executive set lunch), there’s surely something for everyone here at Flutes. We are definitely fans of their special menu, the Seasonal Taste of Flutes Menu, that brings in delicious flavours brought together by the freshness of the different produce.. But, if that’s not quite up your alley, we’re recommending the grilled rack of dorper lamb or their marron bolognese from their a la carte menu.

14. Artichoke

Source: Artichoke

The beautiful thing about Dhoby Ghaut is its proximity to Singapore’s Arts District, filled with interesting architecture and even more intriguing stories within the walls. At Artichoke, you get a blend of both in an almost intoxicating way. Helmed by Chef Bjorn Shen (who had previously risen to fame with Bird Bird in Kembangan), the MasterChef Singapore judge is ready to wow diners once again with his mix of skills and pizzaz. Drawing inspiration from the depth of flavours in Middle Eastern dishes, Artichoke is Chef Bjorn’s take on Middle Eastern classics. Not one for the faint of heart, Artichoke is proud to present their array of sharing platters with their reimagination of the dining experience. Our personal recommendation? Definitely their sinful Falafel Fried Chicken, paired with their burnt miso hummus and Lebanese beef rib stew.

16. Curious Palette

Source: Curious Palette

Frequent cafe-goers may be familiar with Strangers' Reunion, one of the more well-known and longer lasting eateries on this little red dot. However, for those who don’t frequent Outram Park much, their sister cafe located along Prinsep Street may be the perfect alternative. Located along a row of nondescript and unassuming shophouses, they have taken a clean-cut approach to the interior, allowing their delicious food to speak for themselves. Don’t take this the wrong way though: there’s still plenty of Instagram-worthy shots inside the cafe that would perfectly frame the shot of your Berry Ricotta Hotcake or the Soft Shell Crab Burger. Looking for more of a kick? Their Tiger Prawn Belacan Pasta would definitely hit the spot!
