1. Bar Canary

Casual glamour goes poolside at this Grand Park Orchard rooftop that urges you to forgo the glass and go straight for the bottle on Mondays and Tuesdays. Get 25% off bottles of spirit and wine alongside free baskets of truffle fries and chicken wings. Wednesdays here are all about the ladies on Wednesdays ($55 free-flow) while the gents are the focus on Thursdays (25% off whisky). Living for the weekend? Friday and Saturdays have one-for-one pizza to tempt those taste buds between 6pm and 10pm, or you can finish the week on a high (or start it feeling fragile, depending which way you look at it) with one-for-one drinks on Sundays. Round up a big group and soak up the alcohol with plates of beef sliders and succulent grilled skewers of miso beef or prawns with mango salsa. Oh, and in case the humid Singapore weather has you craving something refreshing, don’t miss their signature Boozy Pops. Our go-to is the ‘Day in Paradise’; a creamy coconut popsicle with Malibu, blue curacao and prosecco.

2. Tanuki Raw

We’ve got a lot of love for whoever invented sliders, and even more so when they’re crafted with a succulent Japanese twist. Head to the National Design Centre outpost of modern Japanese eatery Tanuki Raw between 5pm and 8pm on weekdays, ready to dive head-first into bite-sized truffle yakiniku sliders, freshly-shucked oysters. As for the drinks, cocktail signatures like their carefully-crafted margheritas, martinis and Tom Collins are too good not to be indulged in. And it’s not just this location that has great deals in abundance. Their Orchard Central eatery has gotten ultra-generous with six oysters, ten sashimi slices and unlimited uni (sea urchin) with every drink purchased.

Address: 111, #01-05 Middle Rd, National Design Centre, Singapore, 188969

3. Standing Sushi Bar

One for a rainy day perhaps, the latest outpost of Standing Sushi Bar is tucked away in the basement mall of the Marina One condo. But don’t be fooled by its low-key locale; this place is buzzing come happy hour. Each weekday comes with its own set of dinnertime discounts, with our favourites being those that kick-off and conclude the week. Make your Mondays a little bit brighter with $2 sake, $5 beer and wine, plus slices of soft salmon sashimi for just $3. When it’s time to celebrate the return of Friday, repeat this mantra to yourself: go with the (free)flow. It’s just $30 for unlimited beer, sake, shochu and plates of edamame. But don’t think it’s not worth visiting Tuesday to Thursday; take a look at their specials board for melt-in-the-mouth dishes available for a limited time only. For more reliable everyday options, go for the menu staple Buta Kakakuni Don. Expect incredibly tender, flame-seared pork belly served on mixed grain sushi rice.

4. Morton’s

The straight-up, tangy and everything-in-between martinis had us sold on Morton’s from the very first sip. Add to that platefuls of filet mignon steak sandwiches that are unlimited and complimentary between 5pm and 7pm from Monday to Saturday, and this bar has secured its spot on our list of city-centre favourites. Morton’s is pretty much the OG when it comes to happy hour, and it shows, with many a local and expat turning up once the clock strikes 5pm to get their hands on the lychee, apple or chocolate martinis. Its classy setting in the Mandarin Oriental has a touch of old-world charm, and the gin and vodka-based libations are just the thing to wash away that stressful week.

Address: 5 Raffles Avenue, Mandarin Oriental, Singapore, 039797

Opening Hours:

Monday-Sunday: 5pm-12am

Appetites at the ready; those steak sandwiches at Morton’s won’t eat themselves.

5. Publico

This little pocket of Italian perfection comes strung with hundreds of twinkling lights, lush greenery and relaxed but trendy vibes. Public service announcement: Publico ticks the boxes for good food, great drinks and warm, welcoming ambiance in one fell swoop, so don’t be surprised if that ‘one drink’ turns into an entire evening.

Monday-Thursday: 5pm-11pm
Friday: 5pm-12am

6. Loof

Go to Loof for the city vistas, and stay for the Chilli Crab Waffle Fries. They’re the classy Asian big sister to our much-loved truffle fry and a taste bud revelation; so gloriously smothered in tangy blue crab sauce that we challenge you not to order a second plate. Get them (and everything else on the a la carte menu) at 20% off the usual price between 5pm and 8.30pm when you pay with a UOB card. Bank elsewhere? There’s still plenty of reasons to visit, and they come in the form of spirits and wine. All house pours are priced according to the hour: $6 before 6pm, $7 before 7pm and $8 before 8pm. If you just can’t live without an extra 30 minutes, invite your UOB-card-bearing friend and this deal extends to 8.30pm.

Opening Hours:

Sunday-Thursday: 5pm-1am

Fine De Claire and Black Pearl oysters in a glamorous sky-high setting will do just fine, thank you very much. It’s worth staying past these happy oyster hours too with beer paddles going for $20 and cocktails for just $10 after 8pm. Take advantage of this offer and you’ll have five cocktails to choose from including Dirty Sangria and a pineapple-infused Lemongrass Fizz, both of which are best enjoyed while gazing at one of the most impressive views in the CBD.

When you have visitors in town, planning where to show off Singapore’s food and drink scene (without requiring them to re-mortgage their house when they return home) can make for some tough decisions. If beer is their sip and cool is their vibe, head toward Fort Canning then make your way below ground.  A hip but understated beer tavern named HopHeads awaits with daily deals sure to keep your guests – and their wallets – happy. Tangy chicken wings cost but a single dollar on Wednesdays, Thursdays are all about one-for-one drinks, and there’s one-for-one burgers, pizza and pasta dishes on Mondays; all offered until 9pm. Their ever-rotating drinks menu can never be predicted, but trust their judgement and ask for the barmen’s recommendations each day. You won’t regret it.
